Training while on the road is a challenge for many people. Everything from choosing whether or not to pack running shoes to getting time in your trips to break a sweat can cause many people to tell, “
forget about it.”

While your trips may be a time for a pause in routine, don’t let that be an excuse to skip a practice. With so many simple and fun ways to explore a new goal while burning a few extra calories, you won’t even feel like you’re training!

Here are easy steps you can stay in shape while traveling!

Tour Run

In my opinion, one of the best methods to discover a new town is to wake up and go for a run. Not only are you getting your exercise in, but it’s your only time to discover the places and nooks and crannies while everyone else is still sleeping. Head back to your resort after your run for a shower and breakfast and you’re ready to hit the city knowing exactly where to go!

Yoga

Yoga is popular all over the world for a reason – it’s good for your body, mind and spirit. Choosing a yoga class on your travels is not only great for keeping you in shape but it can be enjoyable to see how various instructors make each class a different experience.

Stairs

This is a beneficial work out for both cardio and strength and can be done inside or outside. Perhaps you have stairs in your hotel or there could be a famous monument with loads of stairs in the town you are visiting. Set a time goal and run up and down those bad boys as fast as you can!

For some additional “oomph” in your exercise, do them in a “suicide” style, meaning you head up the first flight, then back down, then back up to the second level, and back down…working your way all the way up. Repeat as many points as necessary.

Hike

Hiking not only presents us with an amazing view and fresh air, but it can also be a request for the body, and that’s a good idea! Make sure you have the right footwear, are appropriately dressed and pick up the pace to get that heart rate up!

Bike vs. Motor

If your day programs include getting out of the city center and heading into nearby villages or visiting a place a few miles away, choose to make it a bike tour rather than using a motor vehicle. Just make sure you receive a map or use your phone GPS, wear a helmet and be safe on the roads!

Walk vs. Bike

Same concept here! If you planned to bike around the town, and if time allows, opt to walk. There are also loads of fantastic walking tours around the world.

Beach + Water Sports

If your stop is near a body of water or pool, there are some things you can do in the water to get your heart rate up. Swimming laps is always a fantastic full-body workout. If you’re more of a land person, run on the beach in the sand and, for a challenge, switch it up by running through the sea just about ankle deep. The sinking sand and water resistance will produce more power. Kayaking is another excellent entertainment in the water that’s great for the core and upper body!

Join in Local Activities

In territories like Asia, it is widespread to see the locals gathering in the parks or other public places to exercise Tai-Chi and dance. You’re also promised to find locals playing a friendly soccer game in a local park or pretty much any open area.

Don’t be afraid to jump in and participate!

They are typically excited about their practice and are more than happy to share it! Also, many towns around the world are getting into CrossFit which gives a high-intensity workout in a short period.

Rock Climbing

Rock climbing is fantastic! It’s fun, exciting and a good workout. If rock climbing is allowed nearby, I strongly recommend checking it out. Just make sure you have a good teacher that provides you the basic technique and guides you with the vocabulary for climbing!

Hotel Room High Intensity

A lot of luxury hotels and wellness centers propose a broad range of treatments and facilities, including privat worcouts, swimming pools, a jacuzzi, detox treatments, thermal mud baths, massages, Imagen Body Sculpting and toning, and facials.

I got special workout from a friend mine that’s a private trainer. It’s a great workout if you’re craving a hard exercise on a limited amount of time. Bonus: You don’t even have to leave your room!

Work your process through the following activities with reps of 25-20-15-10 as fast as you can.

  • Push-ups
  • Burpees
  • Sit-up’s
  • Squat Jumps
  • Tricep Dips
  • Mountain Climbers
  • 45-second Plank
